Hyderabad: During the new year celebrations, the police carried out specialised checks for drunk driving throughout the city of Hyderabad and booked cases against many individuals.

Despite repeated warnings from the police, many drivers disregarded the rules and were caught in large numbers. A total of 2,731 people were caught driving under the influence of alcohol across the three commissionerates. The police stated that cases have been registered against all those who were caught.

In the Hyderabad Commissionerate area, 1198 people, in the Cyberabad Commissionerate area, 928 people, and in the Rachakonda Commissionerate area, 605 people were caught by the police for drunk driving.

These special checks, which continued from last night until the early hours of Thursday morning, once again clearly demonstrated how dangerous it is to drive under the influence of alcohol. The police warned that such checks will continue with the aim of ensuring public safety.

In a separate incident, 16 individuals became ill during the New Year festivities in Bhawaninagar under the Jagadgirigutta police jurisdiction on Wednesday night. After consuming alcohol and biryani, they experienced stomach pains and lost consciousness. They were shifted to Narayana Mallareddy hospital for medical attention, where one person, identified as Pandu (53), unfortunately passed away.
